Case management: This service is provided by a social worker specializing in mental health or developmental disabilities. Case management involves assessment, planning, implementation, and monitoring or services. A county case manager can explain the process used to decide what services best meet a person’s needs, when and how a person can access services, and if the services are available and cost-effective. The case manager will also explain limits to services and which agencies can provide them. Respite Care: This service provides supervision and care to individuals living at home or in out-of-home setting using contracted vendors or licensed foster homes. Semi-Independent Living Skills (SILS): This service is provided by contracted vendors to support persons with mental retardation who need less than 24 hour/day supervision. Services may include assistance in areas such as meal preparation, money management and shopping. SILS services can be provided in the person’s own home, families home or foster care setting. Independent Living Skills (ILS): This service is for persons with mental illnesses who need less than 24-hour/day supervision. Services may include assistance in areas such as money management, shopping and medication supervision. Residential Options- There are various alternatives which provide 24-hour/day supervision in out-of-home settings. These include licensed foster care, Intermediate Care Facilities (also known as ICF/MR group homes) and Supervised Living Services (SLS) for persons with mental retardation, skilled nursing facilities, and Regional Treatment Center (RTC). Waivered Services- There are a variety of home and community based services paid for by Developmental Disabilities Waivers (DD Waiver).
